How Do I Get Texas STAR+PLUS Medicaid?

1. How to Apply for STAR+PLUS Medicaid

Applying for STAR+PLUS Medicaid is easy. Here's how:

Online: Visit the Your Texas Benefits website and choose “Apply for new benefits.”

Phone:  Call 2-1-1 (TTY 711) toll-free, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Central Time.

Mail: Print or request a paper application form and mail it in.

In-person: Visit a Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) benefits office near you. Find a location by calling 2-1-1 or visiting the Find an Office page. You can also visit a community partner in your area.

2. Choose a health plan

Once you’re approved for Medicaid, you’ll receive an enrollment packet in the mail. This packet will include facts about each health plan available to you. Call 1.800.964.2777 (TTY 711) and tell the enrollment broker you want to join Community Health Choice. (Note: If you don’t choose a plan, an enrollment broker will choose one for you.)

How to Change STAR+PLUS Medicaid Plans

If your current health plan is leaving the Harris Service Area, you’ll need to select a new plan to continue receiving your STAR+PLUS benefits.

  • Watch Your Mail: The Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will notify you by mail if you need to choose a new health plan. They’ll send you a packet with information about each available plan.
  • Make a Decision: If you don’t choose a plan by July 1, 2024, HHSC will choose one for you. Be sure to review the information from HHSC and make your choice before the deadline.
  • Keep Your Contact Information Updated: If you’ve moved or changed your phone number, update your contact information with HHSC by visiting the Your Texas Benefits website or calling 2-1-1.
  •  Want to change your plan? Call the Texas Enrollment Broker Helpline at 1.800.964.2777 (TTY 711) or log into your account on the Your Texas Benefits website.
